Our speaker on Wednesday August 19th will be Sandrine Ishimwe. She will be talking about the Friends Career Centre in Rwanda. There are very many Friends in Rwanda and we will learn about the work of some of them with young people. Here are some details:
Friends Career Center is a youth-led organisation founded five years ago by five young Quakers in Rwanda, committed to breaking cycles of poverty and opening doors for young people. We work across three pillars: mentorship and career development, economic empowerment, and mental health and wellbeing. Through programmes like EmpowerHer, which supports single mothers and young women through vocational training and entrepreneurship, and Ubugeni Bwomora, Art that Heals, which uses creative expression to support young people living with HIV, we are building pathways to self-reliance and lasting change. Since 2020, we have reached over 1,000 young people across Rwanda and Canada, raised more than $70,000, and launched 15 youth-led businesses, all driven by a volunteer team that believes every young person deserves the tools, mentorship, and community to build a future they are proud of.
The meeting starts at 7.00 p.m. UK time and the Zoom will be opened at 6.45 p.m. If you have not yet registered to receive the joining instructions for these meetings please email contact@qug.org.uk. We send out the joining instructions to those registered 2 or 3 days before the meeting.
