Dear QUG supporter
This is a brief newsletter to update you on some important QUG activities.
Monthly meeting for worship and sharing
We are delighted to announce that our first monthly meeting for worship and sharing will be by Zoom on Wednesday July 20th at 7.00 p.m. We intend to begin the meeting with a short talk; then there will be a period of silent worship, leading into worship sharing.
We intend to continue these meetings every third Wednesday of the month at 7.00 p.m. We will schedule the meeting for one hour, though people may wish to stay afterwards for further discussion.
On July 20th Daniel Flynn will talk under the title ‘My spiritual journey, from obedience to choice’.
At the following worship and sharing meeting on August 17th John Carvosso’s talk will be entitled ‘A Christian Universalist’.
When we have had one or two meetings we will have received feedback from participants, and then discern whether we need to modify the format.
If you wish to register to attend any of these meetings please send an email to contact@qug.org.uk.
Annual conference pamphlet – Health and Healing
We are working hard to put together our 2022 conference pamphlet: this will contain all the talks, plus a universalist summary article. We hope to send this out late July or early August. This will be sent free to all QUG members and will also be available for sale.
You can already listen to all the talks on our website https://qug.org.uk/
Our annual conference in 2023 – Universalist Creativity
Do book the dates of our 2023 annual conference at Woodbrooke: Friday May 12th to Sunday May 14th. As this year, this will be a blended conference.
It will be a universalist event, so it will cover different world views or religions. We will concentrate on creativity through one or more of the arts, for example painting, architecture, music, dance and poetry. Art can touch the soul in any place and at any time: it is a way into the Spirit; it can open the door to a different world.
Thank you to those who have already sent us ideas or offered to help. If anyone else has anything to contribute please contact us, by replying to this email, or by emailing contact@qug.org.uk.
Religious Education – curriculum change for England and Wales
We have heard from Bernadette Jordan who is the Quaker Representative on the Religious Education Council for England and Wales. The Worldviews Project Team is working on a religion and worldviews approach to the curriculum in England and have produced a handbook for consultation. See:
https://www.religiouseducationcouncil.org.uk/projects/draft-handbook-and-nse/
This may be of interest to some of you. There is the view that the present RE curriculum is overloaded with content about different religions and a universalist approach may be useful. If you wish to contact Bernadette please do so by replying to this email or writing to contact@qug.org.uk.
Britain Yearly Meeting
Thank you to all of you who came along or contributed to our activities at Britain Yearly Meeting: the Groups Fairs and the Faith in Action meeting on Health and Healing. We enjoyed them very much and it was delightful to meet both old friends and new faces.
