April 2026

QUAKER  UNIVERSALIST  GROUP  NEWSLETTER APRIL 2026

Dear QUG supporter

QUG Annual Conference – Launde Abbey – SOUND AND SPIRIT – How music and sound connect us to the soul of the universe.

Thank you to all those who worked hard to make the conference last weekend so informative and inspiring. Over the coming weeks we will be evaluating it and planning for next year: the dates will be similar (April 16th -18th 2027), but we will be returning to High Leigh in Hertfordshire.

Our next pamphlet will be based on this year’s conference and will come out in the summer: it will be sent to all QUG members and to all who came to the conference, both in person and online.

Walking with Francis of Assisi today

Jennifer Kavanagh, one of the speakers at our recent conference, has drawn our attention to a course she is facilitating (with Nigel Thomas) on Zoom for Woodbrooke on Francis of Assisi. It is on Wednesday 27th May at 6.00 pm UK time.

The advert for it reads: ‘How can the example of Francis of Assisi inspire us today? Structured as an extended dialogue, this session offers both a Quaker and Franciscan perspective on Francis’ life and legacy. A particular focus of the session will be Francis’ fusion of mysticism and practical action.’

Tickets are selling fast so if you are interested please apply soon. Full details are at  https://www.woodbrooke.org.uk/courses/walking-with-francis-of-assisi-today/

Britain Yearly Meeting

Do come and visit us at the Groups Fair on Saturday 2nd May between 12.45 and 2.15 p.m.

Our Wednesday evening meetings for worship and sharing

Our next meeting will be on May 20th. Cheryll Pitt will talk about her spiritual journey.

The meetings start at 7.00 p.m. The Zoom will open at 6.45 p.m. We send out reminders two or three days beforehand to everyone who has registered. If you do not have the joining instructions and would like them please send an email to contact@qug.org.uk

Universalist

We welcome articles for our Autumn 2026 edition. We would like these by July 31st 2026. Main articles should usually be between 1000-3000 words. We also welcome reviews, normally about 300-500 words, of books, films, plays, etc. The main criterion for articles and reviews is that they should be of a universalist nature – for more information on this please see our website at https://qug.org.uk/qug-aims/
